Dr. Vonda Wright is a practicing orthopaedic surgeon, researcher and author who harnesses the power of mobility, technology and innovation to maximize performance and minimize injury in active people of all ages and skill levels. Her pioneering research in musculoskeletal aging is changing the way we view and treat the aging process.

Dr. Wright is the inaugural Medical Director of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, an185,000 sq foot collaboration between UPMC and the Pittsburgh Penguins which brings together elite sports medicine, performance, research and professional sports. In this venue Dr. Wright built an integrated team of clinicians who focus on the athlete and active person as a whole, using mobility as medicine and harnessing the individual’s healing potential to maximize their performance on the playing field and in life.

An educator at heart, Dr. Wright not only mentors young doctors but also teaches the public via regular appearances on national TV and in numerous long lead publications. She speaks worldwide and has authored 4 mainstream books including “Fitness after 40,” “Guide to Thrive” (which inspired a complete line of fitness gear sold nationwide in 500 Dick’s Sporting Goods Stores).

In 2013, Dr. Wright ignited a national conversation on Women’s Health via her online and live conference series, Women’s Health Conversations, focused on educating and empowering women to make the best health decisions for themselves and those they touch. WHC has grown to include a weekly iTunes podcast “HOT for your Health,” a 3 book women’s health series and reaches more than 6 million people annually via it’s live, print and digital exposures. Dr. Wright earned her first Bachelors degree in Biology from Wheaton College and her second Bachelors and Master’s of science in Oncology Nursing at Rush University. She earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and completed her fellowship in sports and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Dr. Wright serves as the team doc for 5 of the University of Pittsburgh Olympic Sports Teams, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, USA Rugby and lives with her husband, 2x Stanley Cup Champion, Peter Taglianetti and their blended family of 6 children in Pittsburgh.
