Are Banks ready for Exponential Finance?

In 250 years we’ve seen technology disrupt a host of industries from textiles and agriculture in the 19th century, manufacturing in the 20th century, and most recently with the internet disrupting a host of traditional distribution businesses. Throughout this time banks have remained resilient and their mode of business has not changed – until now. Today there is more investment in FinTech than any other sector, and there are more FinTech start-ups in the US than banks. By 2025 the most common form of bank account will be a smartphone, in both developed economies and the emerging economies of Africa/Asean, etc. How will this impact banking?

In this exponential finance keynote American Banker’s Innovator of the Year and well known entrepreneur and bank futurist Brett King discusses why the biggest banks in a decade won’t be banks, but technology companies, and how the world of banking is set for more change in the next decade than we’ve seen in the last 100 years.

During this session, Jay will delve into the gap he saw in the industry and how he finally brought banking into the 21st century. Innovation had stalled and while the rest of world sped by, banking remained stagnant. Banks still believe opening branches is ‘innovative’ and will draw customers. They are also addicted to fees, according to Jay. Through crowdsourcing, Jay saw an inherent need in the industry to make banking more effortless, enjoyable and financially empowering to customers. And so Jay, along with his daughter Luvleen Sidhu, created BankMobile.
